Candle Care
Get the most out of your candles with these simple tips before lighting, during, and after use.
Read Before Burning
We recommend trimming your wick to at least ¼ inch or 5mm before each burn to avoid the jar from being too hot, which may cause the candle’s scent to burn off. A well-trimmed wick will ensure a clean and even burn, prevents the wick from mushrooming and unnecessary soot.
Place the candle on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, vents, and air currents. Ensure it is kept away from children, pets, clothing, curtains, or any flammable objects.
During a Burn
The first burn of a candle is essential. Let it burn for 3-4 hours or until the melted wax reaches the sides of the jar. It will ensure even burns and avoid tunneling.
If you’re burning multiple candles, keep them at least 4 inches apart to ensure that neither candle burns too hot.
Don’t burn your candle all the way down. Leave at least ¼ inch of wax. This is to avoid overheating/breaking the jar since the flame needs a solid base of wax.
Never touch or move a candle while it is still liquified.
Always be mindful of your candle’s flame. Extinguish the flame if it’s too high and flickering.
Never leave your candle unattended.
After-Burn Care
Extinguish the flame using a candle snuffer or a wick dipper. Don’t use water. Blowing it out will release black smoke and the smell of carbon.
After extinguishing the flame, do not move the candle while the wax is liquified to avoid spills and injury. The wax will be too hot.
How do I know if my Outerspace candle is burning correctly?
A properly trimmed wick will produce a teardrop-shaped, upright, and steady flame. The flame will be 1/2 inch up to an inch in height.
How to maximize the scent throw?
Open windows and doors will lessen the scent throw. Therefore, to maximize fragrance, keep your windows and doors closed.
Light your candle in your desired space for 30 minutes before entering.
How to store your candle?
Store in a cool, dry place.
Avoid direct sunlight or harsh indoor lighting to avoid the wax sweating or melting.
How to clean candles?
Remove dust and fingerprints from an unlit candle by gently rubbing the surface with a piece of a clean, soft cloth. The cloth can be dry or dampened with a little water.
Treat it with caution.
How to reuse and repurpose the jar?
To remove the remaining wax on the jar, use a double-boiler method or pour hot water in the jar to melt the remaining wax, leave it for 1 hour, and then dispose of the wax properly in the trash.
Try not to pour wax directly into the drainage to avoid clogging.
Wipe it off with tissue paper.
Use it as a pen, brush, stationery, or accessories holder. Disclaimer: our candle jar is not a food-grade container and should NOT be used to store food items.
